Learning to dance is hard, and Zouk is a particularly challenging dance at that, so we took it on ourselves to create a comprehensive curriculum that takes you from zero dance experience to having an in-depth understanding of the mechanics of Zouk. Students should expect to spend an average of 3-6 months at each level before advancing, depending on their level of prior dance/movement experience. Note that all of our levels except fundamentals require students to pass assessments in order to continue past the first class.
For us, zouk is about connection & expression, not the moves. We teach moves, obviously, but rather than making you memorize where to step and where to hold, we care that you understand how to use the lead/follow connection in zouk to create the desired movements. We’d much rather spend a whole class on just one move rather than give you several 8-counts of moves that you’ll forget as soon as you walk out the door (although we typically move as fast as the class can keep up with). When we teach, we teach CONCEPTS, not choreography.
Curious? Come to class and see why we’re so passionate about teaching!
